As Countr operates in many countries, business rules may differ or vary by economic region. Here is the summary of the terms on our cart:

Product-level discount

A reduction of the retail price, either by percentage or a fixed number, that is applied to a product.

Cart-level discount

A reduction of the retail price, either by percentage or a fixed number, that is applied to all the products in the cart.

Tax

A percentage increase that is applied to the retail price of a product category, set by the governing entity under which the business is listed.

For example, the standard value-added tax (VAT) rate in the Netherlands is 21%, whereas the reduced VAT rate is 9%, and some products are not taxed. Within the Netherlands, the tax varies according to the product category. Across different countries, the tax varies according to the relevant tax authority.

Subtotal

The value price of all the products in the cart, before tax has been applied, and after cart-level and product-level discounts have been applied. This number naturally varies by product, but it does not vary by region or country for the same product, unless the company practices price discrimination.

Total

The subtotal, after tax has been applied. This is the price that the buyer pays, given the tax authority under which the sale was made.
